Tu Lan Cave Expedition

Morning briefing in Phong Nha. 70 km transfer west to Tan Hoa, the village at the foot of the Tu Lan range. Meet your cave team — two certified leads, four porters, one cook. Final gear check, dry-bag your camera kit, sign the safety brief. Lunch with a local family, then a 4-hour jungle approach: rolling karst, two shallow river crossings, dropping into a hidden valley. First swim entry into Hang Ton — a 200m swim-through that exits onto our jungle camp by the river. Hammocks strung. Fire lit. Dinner is grilled river fish, sticky rice, mountain greens.

Pre-dawn coffee. Pack down camp 1. The long day: enter Hang Kim through a sunlit doline, walk a kilometer of dry chamber under stalactite cathedrals, then swim 400m into Hang Tu Lan — the system's main artery. Headlamps off in the silent chamber — the dark is total. Climb a 15m gour-pool staircase, exit into a second hidden valley. Lunch on a sandbar inside the cave. Afternoon trek over a karst saddle to camp 2 by a different river. Bigger fire. Fireflies. The cook makes pho on coals.

Easier morning: a 90m swim-through Hang Ken — an underground river you exit through a 30m skylight chamber draped in vines. Out into open jungle by mid-morning, slow walk back to Tan Hoa for a hot lunch with the host family (and a beer). 2pm transfer back to Phong Nha. Hot showers, photo handoff over dinner, debrief.
